It's not too fanciful to say that in one way or another my whole life has in some way been influenced by the history, people, culture and landscape of these two beautiful countries. The extent and diversity of the connections and influences range from the seemingly inconsequential to the utterly profound and life changing and are, with respect to you dear reader, too many and complex to mention here.
Suffice to say that as I'm now in my sixties and by my own definition engaged in the final chapter of my life as a professional photographer, with a desire to make documentary photo stories that truly inspire me and make my heart and soul sing; it is to these two exquisite countries that I choose to look to for inspiration and a glorious sense of photographic purpose.
Rather than overcomplicate and befuddle you dear reader with any further explanation from me, I'll defer to the great man himself
Ansel Adams.
"We all write too much, speak too much, preach too much. It would be better if we just said what we have to say in photographs. Afterall we are photographers; if our work has 'what it takes', it will not need justification in type for our adventures in silver?"
Ansel Adams
So here I am and here is my work, always in hopeful pursuance of finding "what it takes".
Wishing you fair light and full frames
Giles
